St Cynnwr WI
St. Cynnwr WI started in 1967 and is one of 52 Institutes in the
Carmarthenshire Federation. Initially entertainment orientated, a choir and drama group were formed and for many years a Christmas tape was produced for the “Talking Newspaper for the Blind”. It was also at the fore of campaigning for regular fire drills in schools.
In 2017 we celebrated 50 years, starting the year with a lunch and ending with a supper, a birthday cake, guests and entertainment. In between there were visits to Fonmon Castle and Cowbridge, Llanelli house, 10 pin bowling and talks ranging from Forensics, the History of Underwear, cheese making, to Winter colour in our gardens.
We try to find speakers with talks of interest to our members and this year have
already had a demonstration of applique. Life begins at 50 in April and in June the Pearl Lady is coming, Treasured Memories in July, jams, chutneys and wine in September and the Spirit of Christmas in December. In addition, there are trips, visits, walks as well as events organized by the County, including dominoes, darts, book clubs, quizzes, bowls and fashion shows, something for everyone.
We usually meet on the 1st Tuesday of the month in Llangunnor
Primary school at 7pm and are always pleased to welcome new faces. Why not give us a try for 2 or 3 months, make new friends and enjoy a chat over tea and biscuits, possibly cake!
